Leif Coffield has unvieled his newest single ‘Say My Name,’ a stunning new dark electro pop track which looks to cement him as one of the UK’s most innovative and exciting dark electro pop artists.
Based in Glasgow, Coffield has already captured to music world’s attention with his razor-sharp lyrics slicing through waves of thickly textured electronic combinations of indie, dark contemporary pop and hip hop. Having gained support throughout 2020 from the likes of Clash, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music, Coffield is looking to introduce his boundary-breaking dark pop sound to an even larger audience. ‘Say My Name’ tackles the feeling of being suppressed in a relationship and the yearning to break free and rediscover yourself.
Coffield’s interest in minimalist and brutalist imagery can be seen in the stunning video which accompanies ‘Say My Name’. Contrasting vibrant choreography with a stark setting, the video captures the darkness of the new track.
“I try in each of my songs for them to have one unique element, or one distinguishing factor that sounds out of the ordinary and that separates it from the norm. I take a lot of inspiration from artists that endeavour to break the mould and refrain from operating within the confines of the mainstream.” Coffield says of the track, “Artists like Flume, FINNEAS, Kanye West, Bon Iver etc where pushing the boundaries of the creative process and what is conventionally palatable is key. I would describe my music as if hip hop impregnated acoustic and gave birth to a baby that was raised in an electronic family. I always try to evoke emotion in the song whether it be through the instrumentation or accompanying vocal melody and lyrics.”
